Alfred Hitchcock portrait by Antony Hare

Hitchcock
Here's what my younger brother, Stephen, has to say about Mr. Hitchcock: Revisionist interpretations of legends are always tricky because if there is one thing that drives us in life it is the knowledge that we will be remembered this way for doing that. ¶ With that in mind Alfred Hitchcock was a great filmmaker who understood one principle better than anyone else and one sadly lacking in much of today's cinema—let the viewer magnify the suspense in their mind. When watching a Hitchcock film, play with it. Build it in your mind. Take the elements that he leaves for us and concoct them into your fear. Enjoy.
Stephen Hare, August 2001
