She's All That In the spring of 2002 I decided to dial it up a notch and I couldn't think of a better way than to start illustrating beautiful Hollywood starlets. This illustration of Ms. Cook came slowly at first, but then I drew her eyes to my satisfaction and everything else followed. Always remarkable to me how every drawing is different in this way. Sometimes it comes together all at once, sometimes the hair is right, and still other times I need to delete some feature for it to work. Part of the struggle I had with this portrait is that to a certain degree Cook's looks are classic Hollywood and she brings to mind earlier stars like Audrey Hepburn. She has distinctive features, however, and I have tried my best to do justice to them. Her right eye is slightly lower than her left, and her chin and nose are particularly pointed. ¶ Goes without saying that I think highly of Rachael Leigh Cook. I wouldn't call myself a fan, but I do find her striking. I'm especially fond of her turn in Blow Dry and she made otherwise forgetable movies like She's All That, Anti-Trust, and the new Get Carter that much more watchable. |
