| Almost Nova Scotian I had the great good fortune to see Stan Rogers in concert at the Rebecca Cohn Auditorium in Halifax in the mid-1970s. It was a memorable occasion. Stan was the opening act for the very popular Irish group, Ryan's Fancy, and it must have been an unnerving prospect. Stan had nothing to worry about. The audience gave him a warm reception, and he was soon headlining his own concerts and enjoying, all too briefly, his much deserved success. He has left an enduring legacy of fine music. His subtle lyrics speak to people in moving ways, and his original melodies sound as if they have been around forever. They are, quite simply, great songs, perfectly suited to Stan Rogers' rich baritone. I think this sketch captures the joy that Stan Rogers took in making music. Bill Hare, June 2001 |
